Why glass bottles?

Glass is the only material generally recognised as safe for pickles, as they interact with the walls of their container. It preserves the original freshness and aroma, and extends shelf life.

Pouch / international packaging

Want a pouch? Just pick the pouch size when you add the product to your cart. All our pouches are food-grade HDPE and can withstand international transit.

International shipping

Know your pickles & podis
What is Edin and what does it do?

Edin Life is a home grown label that brings you hand-made, small batch products using the age-old authentic recipes of the Telugu household. Our pickles and karam podis are made with 100% cold pressed oils, using ingredients sourced from small farmers in and around Telangana. We are sustainable, 100% preservative free, all natural — free of artificial colours, preservatives and additives.

Why pickles and karam podis?

The tradition of pickling was developed before the green revolution and modern appliances, as a solution to food scarcity and the seasonality of produce. Pickles carry a host of health benefits and were invented both to save vegetables and to extract the most nutrition out of each bite. The irony today is that we add preservatives to pickles, compromising their authenticity. We want to un-pickle the pickle we’re in — re-introduce nostalgia to the ones who have forgotten it, introduce it to the ones who never knew it, and preserve our culinary heritage.

Are pickles good for you?

There are quite a few myths around pickles — especially that they aren’t good for you. Pickling was invented to address food scarcity, but also because it lets you extract the maximum nutrition out of each bite. Pickles are natural probiotics, good for the gut, an immunity booster, and a rich source of antioxidants and vitamins like C, A and K. Do consider your existing health conditions though: they often make us avoid foods that are otherwise good, sometimes because of specific ingredients.

What are the benefits of karam podis?

Karam podis are unconscious nutrition: a mix of ingredients you’d otherwise not consume regularly. Take curry leaf — most of us push it to the corner of the plate. In podi form, you can’t. Mix a spoon into your curries, sprinkle it on dosas, idlies and upma, mix it with hot rice and ghee, or dust it over dips and salads for that extra zing.

Are your pickles acid-reflux free?

Our pickles do not trigger acid reflux / GERD. This has been constant feedback from our repeat customers.

Why the name Edin?

The name Edin is a reflection of what we are. Edin means the Earth (there’s a little word play in here), and it also means fire, and a place of pleasure. We are 90% plastic free (a few measures are needed while shipping, including a sheet of bubble wrap — which we ask you to re-use, or use as a stress buster). Our ingredient list is transparent: what you read is what you get. Our food pictures are real and un-edited, and no food is wasted — “what you see is what’s in the bottle / pouch”. We support small farmers, which in turn makes small batch production possible.

Where do your ingredients and vegetables come from?

All our vegetables and ingredients are sourced directly from farmers in and around Telangana, and sorted in-house. The chilli powder is ground in-house to avoid any additives creeping in, and so is the turmeric. We grind our own masalas and powders in-house.

What oil do you use?

Only cold pressed groundnut (peanut) oil. The oil is sourced from outside — we get our own batch made separately as and when needed, and wait there to monitor the process from start to end.
